STRICTLY COUNTRY

Vol. 48 February-March 2006

Two of the sisters (of course they aren't really sisters) we already know from the first configuration of the band The Crooked Jades, Lisa Berman and Stephanie Prausnitz. Here they are again, together with three other women, playing glorious Old Time music on a recording  20 cuts long. Some of the songs the sisters composed themselves, including one quite topical song with lyrics refering to the Iraq war (and not with praise). The traditional cuts are not known chestnuts, but rather rarer pieces. Quick fiddle tunes predominate, but there are also pensive tones, shades of the blues, and a strong gospel influence that provide variety. This recording features the Dobro, an atypical instrument for Old Time, but the gals integrate it well. All five band members take turns singing, each in her own characteristic voice. The alterating voices prevent monotony. Completely retrospective this album is not, but the Stairwell Sisters' sound is closer to the traditional than is that of the eclectic Crooked Jades. I have seen the ladies now in Nashville and am especially pleased to have taken home this acoustic souvenir. I even recognize several of the songs. Contact www.stairwellsisters.com

THE STAIRWELL SISTERS:
FEET ALL VER THE FLOOR
Yodel-Ay-Hee 061 USA 2005 (57:26 min.)

Old Time String Band Musik, 20 lange Titel insgesamt. Kontakt www.stairwellsisters.com
